This was a spinning challenge setup by Jacey of Insubordiknit. The challenge was to spin two yarns from the exact same materials – but vastly different. This could mean that you used varying degrees of control when you spun or that you just spun two different yarns – whatever you wanted to do to challenge yourself.
So, on the left is my ‘good twin’ – a yarn that is, by my standards, more well-behaved and ‘vanilla’. It was spun as 3 lace weight singles then all plied together for a 3ply DK weight yarn. I actually quite like how it turned out.
On the right is the ‘bad twin’ – more my style. This is a thick and thin yarn with coils, cocoons, slubs, wrapped in gold thread, thick and thing and bouncing with locks and a lot of colour and texture.
Here are my materials:
edit: I forgot to mention the orange mohair locks that were also included. I ended up not using the orange flowers.
Fibers: Merino, Bamboo, Corriedale, Mohair,
Colours: Chartreuse, Brown, White, Pink, Gold, Blue, Green,
Weight: DK (good twin), Bulky (bad twin)
Embellishments: The bad twin – locks, coils, slubs, cocoons
